27. Tiruvalampozhil

திரு ஆலம்பொழில் 

Location: Tiruvalampozhil near Thanjavur
(Chola Naadu-South of Kaveri)
Shiva: Atmanathar

Description:This temple is located in the vicinity of Tiruppoonturutti (a mile) and the other Saptastanams of Tiruvaiyaru. Tiruvalampozhil is considered to be the 10th in the series of Tevara Stalams in the Chola kingdom located south of the river Kaveri. Aalampozhil is also referred to as Parambaikkudi.

Legend has it that the Ashta Vasus and Kashyapa muni worshipped Shiva here. Shiva is also known as Vatamooleswarar here. The west facing shrine also has shrines to Ganesha, Viswanatha and Visalakshi, the Navagrahams and other parivara devatas. 

Festivals:  This is a small temple where 2 worship services are offered each day.  Aavanimoolam, Kartikai Deepam, Navaratri, Sivaratri and Skanda Sashti are celebrated here.The Saptastana festival of Tiruvaiyaru, where the festival image of Shiva of Tiruvaiyaru is taken in procession to each of the surrounding 7 temples is a very grand one.
