SKANDA 

New music CD to be released

  New Musical Album: A recording of ancient tamil hymns set to modern music by Cincinnati based composer Kanniks Kannikeswaran is to be released on July 3, 2004, at 6:45 PM  at the Hindu Temple of Greater Cincinnati, commemorating the kumbhabhishekam ceremony and the inauguration of the newly built southern wing of the temple.

 

The Hindu Temple of Greater Cincinnati enjoys the support of a 10,000 strong Indian community from around the Cincinnati area. Built on a sprawling campus, it hosts several cultural events and festivals throughout the year, representing the diverse traditions of the Indian subcontinent. The Murugan shrine, special to the Tamil and Malayalam speaking people of South Asian origin was established in 1997.

  About the composer: Kanniks Kannikeswaran is a highly regarded musician and composer with several albums and productions to his credit. His recent production Shanti – presenting the message of peace through a musical interpretation of ancient chants, featuring a 125 member choir and a 25 member orchestra in a grand synthesis of Indian and western music traditions won accolades from critics and community leaders alike. Kanniks is also the author of the website www.templenet.com which attracts over 1500 visitors each day.

  The Music: In this album Skanda, Kanniks has set to music, ancient verses from the Tamil Bhakti movement of the 1st millennium CE and the Tiruppukazh hymns from the 15th century.

  Chief Guest: Satguru Bodhinatha Veylan Swami, Kauai (Hawaii) Hindu Monastery, Editor, Hinduism Today will be the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony.

  New wing inauguration: The new wing of the temple is built with the support of the Indian community of Greater Cincinnati.
