Pattadakal Temples at Pattadakal near Dharwar(Karnataka)

Deities: Virupaksha, Mallikarjuna, Sangameswara, Kasi Visweswara, Galaganatha

Both the Northern and Southern styles were used in building temples here in this early Chalukyan site. The Virupaksha, Mallikarjuna, Sangameswara and a Jain temple are in the Dravidian style while Jambulinga, Kasivisweswara & Galaganatha are in the Northern style. The Papanatha temple shows an attempt to combine the Northern & Southern styles. There are many temples in this site going back to the 7th cent. AD, both structural and excavated.Pattadakal is in the Southern portion of Bijapur District.
